Shoes
for Kids
A special fund to allow the
nurses of the four Watauga schools to meet extraordinary and
unusual needs of the students. The demographics are
changing and an increasing number of students come ill prepared
to participate fully in the life of the school. Not having
a pair of shoes suited for physical education is a typical
problem.
In the past, out of compassion,
the nurses have used their own resources to help a needy
child. Children get sick and soil themselves; a parent or
guardian can not be reached; the fund provides a stock of basic
clothing items to help the child through the day.
A child was having difficulty
reading as her glasses did not fit. The mother promised to
get new glasses, but did nothing; the nurse took action so the
child could keep up with her studies.
The Birdville ISD has awarded
the club a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the
support given to the students of the district.

Special
Community Fund
A fund to meet unusual or
extraordinary needs in the city of Watauga. A member of
the Fort Worth Sertoma Club provided information about a man in
Watauga whose hearing had deteriorated to such an extent he had
great difficulty communicating with his doctor and his
wife. The family lacked the resources to obtain a hearing
device. Sertoma, through the Goodrich Center, was able to
help thus removing the darkness of silence from the life of the
family.

Readers of Exams
There are students in Watauga
Middle School who have great difficulty with the written word
and can not cope with printed exams. However, these
students can share their knowledge of a subject when the exam is
presented orally. Thus, a cadre of volunteer readers has
been formed to work with staff administering mid-term and final
examinations.

Christmas Joy
A time for sharing.
Joined with the First Baptist Church of Watauga in spreading the
joy of the season with families in dire straights in the city of
Watauga.

Unforseen Events
Floods are catastrophic events
that leave physical and emotional scars on all who are
affected. In conjunction with the Christian Center of Fort
Worth and the Red Cross, gift certificates for Shoes for Kids
were distributed to those who were devastated by the Haltom City
disaster.
